What is Glutamine?
Glutamine is an amino acid that acts as a building block for the tissues of the body. It is the most abundant amino acid in the body and is highly concentrated in the muscles. Schwartz Laboratories uses only the highest grade Glutamine available.
Why do I need Glutamine?
If you are training hard and are interested in gaining strength, stamina and size, and speeding the recovery time between workouts, then Glutamine is for you. Since Glutamine plays such a major role in muscle recovery and muscle growth, it is very important to make it readily available to the body and muscles.
To better understand the body’s need for Glutamine, it is important to remember how the body builds muscle (anabolism). Our body does not build muscle during a workout, in fact, it begins a process called catabolism, the breakdown of muscle/protein. Muscle grows when it is in the rebuilding phase, or recovery, after the workout is over. The more intense the workout, the more Glutamine and other amino acids are pulled from the muscles during the strenuous activity. So, supplementation with Glutamine replenishes what’s lost and our body is more efficient at recovery and growth. In addition, when Glutamine is in abundance and readily available, other critical systems of the body are not compromised, such as the immune system, and they have enough Glutamine to perform their necessary functions.
How do I use Glutamine?
As a dietary supplement, take a 5-10 grams serving twice a day. The ideal time to take Glutamine is after workouts and before bed, times when muscle tissue is undergoing repair and/or recuperation.
Note: 10 grams serving size based on 150 lb person, 20 grams serving size based on 200 lb person, not to exceed 25 grams per serving.
Hint: One rounded teaspoon = approx. 5 grams
One rounded tablespoon = approx. 10 grams
Those having trouble gaining lean mass or on very restricted diets may consider 1 additional 5-10 grams serving per day.
